The textile sector is preparing against the Brexit outcomes

Brexit will change textile market rules.

There is a sort of uncertainty principle being installed in society about the consequences that Brexit will have for the common economy of the EU. This principle is no either unfamiliar to the textile sector, which is preparing to meet this challenge. Half of the Spanish export is destined for the great European countries, including Great Britain . Considering the start of the negotiations, different corporate associations in the sector are preparing to understand the consequences of the departure of the British from the unified European market. The textile industry continues to add about 3% of value-added manufacturing in Europe. It should also be noted that this textile industry is a very diverse and heterogeneous sector, comprising the complete chain of production: the transformation of the fibres to the final product that the consumer acquires; including clothing, home textiles and other technical or industrial materials. These are the reasons why ATEVAL will participate in the working group created around IVACE INTERNATIONAL in order to analyse the consequences and impact of Brexit in the commercial relationship with the United Kingdom

Considering the exporting nature of the textile industries of the Valencian Community, the working group will also analyse the new protectionist policies to be carried out by the different European Countries, which traditionally have been important selling markets. According to the analysis made by the IVACE, the textile is one of the sectors with heavy dependence of these markets, which will make necessary to stay ahead of the consequences. The Valencian Government Department for a Sustainable Economy, Productive Sectors, Trade and Labor, through the General Directorate of Industry, will shortly publish the preliminary results of the study that, under the responsibility of the Conselleria itself, is being carried out by the Universidad Politécnica de Valencia on industrial sectors, with special emphasis on the Valencian textile sector
